If you’re one of the millions of people who get excited when Chris Pratt gets on the screen, you probably haven’t heard about Mike Tyson’s latest video for the song, “I Am a Believer.”
In it, the actor, who was recently named the best American actor by TIME Magazine, talks about being raised a Christian, and he’s just as outspoken about his belief in Jesus Christ.
“God said, ‘Behold, I give you a spirit that is exceeding that which is in the heavens.
And I am calling you forth in my name to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ,’ ” he sings.
“But I am a believer.”
“I am a Believing Believer” was released last week.
It’s a new music video for Pratt’s new single, “Sister,” and is the second single from the upcoming sophomore album by the band, Faith No More.
Pratt recently appeared on the show The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss the video, and his interview with DeGenere was very entertaining.
In it he talks about the experience of being a part of a church where they are so strict, and the impact it has on their relationships with their own families.
Pratt says, “My family and I, and I don’t even know what the hell we’re doing with our lives here.
And my dad was like, ‘You’re supposed to be with Jesus.
If you don’t do that, then I will have to have you.’
I had to come back home and just pray over my dad.”
He then explains how he grew up in a fundamentalist church, and how it affected his family.
Pratt said, “They were very strict, but I remember being like, I was just in a really small, isolated space, and everyone was kind of doing it together, and there was no accountability or anything.
I remember my dad telling me to come home, but we were just like, No, you know, we’re not going home.
We’re going to have to wait for Jesus to come.”
Pratt is not alone in his belief that Jesus Christ is the One true God, but he also believes that the church’s teaching on God’s purpose in the world has changed over the years.
“They’re just so obsessed with the word of God,” Pratt said.
“I’m like, What?
They just don’t know?
They’re so concerned with what’s good and what’s bad, and everything’s a matter of opinion.”
He said, I just think that the bible has gotten more and more liberal over the past couple of hundred years, and so I think that they’ve gotten more concerned about trying to make their church more liberal, and less about trying be true to the church.
Pratt’s beliefs on the matter are not new, and while he’s not the first celebrity to have such a belief, his comments are the first time the musician has talked about it in the context of religion.
“It is something I’ve had for awhile now that I think has kind of been an integral part of who I am,” Pratt told HuffPost Religion.
“And it’s something I still think about.
It kind of reminds me of when I was a little kid.
I used to go to a church every Sunday, and they would have the same song that they played on a little organ, and it was always the same.
I think the church just brought me into it, and then it became a part.
But now, I think it’s all about Jesus.
It is all about Christ.”
